Questions & Answers
Question: What are the Talons made of?
Ans: They are cut from
3/16th inch steel.
Question: How are they finished?
Ans: They are powder-coated in silver-gray to
match your engine. You can also get them unfinished by special
request so that you can have them chrome-plated at a shop near you.
Expect a delay if you choose to do that. If you want them in a color,
the simplest thing to do would be to order them powder-coated and then paint
over the powder-coating in the color of your choice.
Question: Where can I find footpegs?
Ans: The first place to look is right here! Check out our
Adapter and see how
you can use BMW passenger pegs from your bike or by getting a second from your dealer
or a used pair from some of the various forums or websites. That way you can keep the BMW look for your bike.
If you want a cruiser-type of footpegs they can be found at a motorcycle
dealer with a good selection of aftermarket accessories, especially those
catering to cruisers. Your local Harley dealer would be a good place
to start.
Question: What size is the hole in
your brackets where I will need to mount the footpegs?
Ans: The hole in the brackets is 1/2 inch in diameter.
Question: Do they
require special bolts for mounting?
Ans: No, you use the same bolts that hold your
valve covers on. See the Installation
page for more detail.
Question: Does that put too much
stress on the bolts?
Ans: No, the brackets are designed to have your
foot rest on the footpegs. There is plenty of thread left in
the bolts to secure the bracket to the valve cover without over-stressing
the bolts if installed properly.
Question: If I drop my bike, will the brackets strip the bolts out?
Ans: No, the bracket will bend and should not
exert enough force on the valve cover bolts to cause them to strip the
threads. In fact, by mounting the brackets on the bottom of your valve
cover, the brackets may prevent damage to your valve cover if you should
drop your bike. You do have to remember, however, that you are
screwing your bolts into an aluminum head and it is possible to strip the
threads by either cross-threading the bolts or over tightening them.
Reasonable care will prevent either of those things from happening.
Question: What if I order a set of your Talons and I'm not happy with
them.
Ans: If it is just a matter of your getting the
wrong size, then we will gladly exchange them for the proper size. All
you would have to pay is the shipping and possibly an extra $5 if they have
to be powder-coated again. We know that our success depends on our
customers being happy with our products. We absolutely want you to be
happy with your Talon brackets or Adapters. All you would have to say
to get a full refund of your purchase price minus the shipping is that you
are not happy with them...period.
Question: Do you intend to offer footpegs.
Ans: The short answer is: No. The
possibility was considered and an effort was made to produce them, but it
was not cost-effective to try to manufacture footpegs with such a low volume
of expected sales. If we could order several thousand, then it might
have worked, but our expected volume will not support an order at that
level.
Question: How are they shipped?
Ans:
Your brackets are normally shipped by USPS Priority Mail and will normally get to
you in 2-3 days. Next-day delivery is possible for an extra charge. They will be mailed the day following your order and,
in some cases, will even be shipped the same day as your order.
